On the morning of November 5 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a press conference to announce activities celebrating the 80th anniversary of the agriculture and environment sector (1945–2025).

Speaking at the event, Mr. Trần Gia Long, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Finance under the Ministry, reported that Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery export turnover in October 2025 was estimated at USD 5.96 billion, up 6.3% compared to the same period in 2024. This brought the total export value for the first 10 months of 2025 to USD 58.13 billion, a 12.9% increase year-on-year.

In the export structure, agricultural products continued to hold the largest share with USD 31.34 billion (up 15.5%); seafood reached USD 9.31 billion (up 12.9%); forestry products totaled USD 14.93 billion (up 5.8%); and livestock products reached USD 512.9 million (up 19%). Notably, input materials for production surged 31.9% to USD 2.03 billion, while salt exports doubled to USD 9.5 million.

In terms of markets, Asia remained the largest importer, accounting for 44.7% of total export value, followed by the Americas (22.7%) and Europe (13.8%). Particularly, exports to Europe increased 37.5%, and to Africa jumped 83.6%, signaling strong market diversification. The top three markets were China (21.4%), the United States (20.4%), and Japan (7%), with growth rates of 12%, 6.2%, and 20.4%, respectively.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Phùng Đức Tiến noted that 2025 has been an especially challenging year for the agriculture and environment sector due to continuous natural disasters. Twelve storms have already made landfall, and the 13th storm is forecast to be particularly strong. Total storm and flood damage is estimated at VND 46 trillion, claiming 211 lives, with agriculture being the hardest-hit sector. Current recovery funding meets only VND 2.5 trillion, far below the actual needs.

In response, the Ministry has directed recovery conferences in 11 affected provinces to restore agro-forestry-fishery production and local livelihoods. Despite the challenges, 10-month results remain positive: rice output reached 39 million tons (99.2% of plan); livestock production increased 2.9%; seafood output hit 8.16 million tons (up 3.1%); and forestry production reached 31 million m³ of wood (up 7.8%).

“Total export turnover reached USD 58.13 billion, with a trade surplus of USD 17.59 billion (up 16.4%). If the last two months achieve about USD 12 billion, the sector’s total annual exports could surpass USD 70 billion,” Mr. Phùng Đức Tiến said.

Alongside production, the Ministry continues to improve institutional frameworks, decentralize administrative powers, and finalize draft amendments to key laws for submission to the National Assembly this session. Many administrative procedures have been simplified, helping foster an enabling environment for green and sustainable agricultural development.

Additionally, preparations are underway for the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Agriculture and Environment sector — an opportunity to reflect on achievements, lessons learned, and strategic directions for the 2026–2030 period.
