4 airports reopen, flights operate normally from the morning of September 8
Four airports affected by super typhoon Yagi have resumed operations since the evening of September 7 and the early morning of September 8. Airlines are also operating flights on September 8 as planned.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, by the morning of September 8, Typhoon Yagi will move in a West-Northwest direction, weaken and then gradually dissipate.
Airports affected by super typhoon Yagi have also resumed operations since the evening of September 7 and the early morning of September 8. Specifically, Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) will operate normally from 11:50 p.m. on September 7. Van Don Airport (Quang Ninh) will operate normally from 8:12 p.m. and Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa) from 10:00 p.m. on September 7. Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong) will also resume operations from 00:08 a.m. on September 8.
Based on information on the storm’s developments and the airports’ plans to resume operations, many airlines will also maintain normal operations of flights on September 8 as planned, ensuring the rights of customers who have booked tickets.
Airlines recommend that passengers proactively monitor information and arrange travel time to the airport to ensure smooth and on-time flights.
Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority announced the decision to extend the suspension of aircraft reception at Van Don and Cat Bi airports until 8:00 p.m. on September 7; at Noi Bai airport until 12:00 a.m. on September 7, an increase of 3 hours compared to the announcement late on September 6.
Vietnam Airlines also had to cancel and adjust the operating hours of more than 110 flights on September 7 and 8. Accordingly, the airline will cancel 34 flights and adjust the operating hours of 78 other domestic and international flights.
The airline also adjusted the operating hours of 53 domestic flights to and from Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) from September 6 to September 8. The airline also changed the operating hours of 25 international flights to and from Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) on September 7 and 8.
Vietjet has announced the temporary suspension of 67 flights to and from Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) from 10:00 to 19:00 on September 7. On the same day, the airline also temporarily suspended 18 flights to and from Cat Bi airport (Hai Phong) from 5am to 4pm, and 4 flights to and from Tho Xuan airport (Thanh Hoa) from 12pm to 10pm.
Similarly, Bamboo Airways also canceled 14 flights on September 7.
Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) said that on the morning of September 7, Van Don and Cat Bi airports were directly affected by the storm from 7am with strong winds, the lowest visibility during the storm reached 800-1,500m.
Noi Bai airport was directly affected by the storm from around 10am, visibility reduced to 800-2,000m during the storm. At around 12pm, the storm affected Tho Xuan airport, with heavy to very heavy rain and the lowest visibility reduced to 1.5-3km.
The aviation authority continues to issue a telegram requesting relevant units to focus on responding to storm No. 3 and post-storm floods; proactively respond to storm No. 3 and overcome the consequences of post-storm floods.
