Maersk – a Danish logistics and shipping group – wants to find investment opportunities and build a large container port in Vietnam, with a green, low-carbon development orientation.

This information was stated by Mr. Vincent Clerc, Director of A.P.Moller – Maersk Group (Maersk) at a meeting with General Secretary To Lam on November 18.

Mr. Vincent Clerc said that the company highly appreciates Vietnam’s economic development achievements in the context of many challenges facing the world. Vietnam is an important partner of this group in the region and the world.

The Director of Maersk Group shared that they want to explore investment opportunities to build large, modern, green container ports and strategic logistics projects in Vietnam. Through this, they will support Vietnam to increase import-export turnover, transition to a low-carbon economy, adapt to climate change and soon achieve the goal of net zero emissions.

“The group sees great potential and opportunities and wishes to contribute more to Vietnam’s development,” said Mr. Vincent Clerc.

Maersk is the world’s largest container shipping and logistics group, headquartered in Denmark. The General Secretary welcomed the plan to expand investment in Vietnam in developing a green, smart seaport system and logistics services.

The General Secretary said that Vietnam focuses on developing infrastructure, including green seaports to serve the goal of sustainable development. He encouraged the group to invest in areas such as the maritime economy, and said that Vietnam is ready to facilitate foreign investors to develop logistics projects.

Vietnam is among the 20 economies with the largest international trade scale in the world. The operator is promoting the development of synchronous, widespread and seamless transport infrastructure to increase the competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy.

Vietnam – Denmark established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and a Green Strategic Partnership in 2023. According to the General Secretary, this is the driving force to promote the relationship between the two countries to strongly develop in all fields following the trend of green and sustainable development.
