Wood exports ranked second in the world

On November 19, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center, the 16th International Exhibition on Industrial Machinery and Equipment for the Wood Processing Industry in Vietnam (VietnamWood 2025) and the International Exhibition on Furniture Equipment, Hardware and Tools for the Wood Industry (FURNITEC 2025) opened, attracting more than 320 units, with nearly 800 booths from 27 countries and territories.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, 2025 marks positive growth signals for the Vietnamese wood industry, especially thanks to the strong recovery of the US housing market – our largest export market for wood and wood products. This is an important opportunity for the Vietnamese wood industry to continue to break through, expand market share and improve product quality.

From a business perspective, Mr. Phung Quoc Man – Chairman of the Handicraft and Wood Processing Association of Ho Chi Minh City said that the Vietnamese wood processing industry is facing a period of strong and promising development. In the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam’s wood and wood product export turnover is estimated to reach 14 billion USD, an increase of 6% over the same period in 2024.

Not only that, Vietnam is also an attractive destination for FDI capital flows. The wood processing industry recorded an increase of about 7% in the number of new projects in 2024 compared to the previous year, and in particular, newly registered capital increased by more than 73%. These figures demonstrate the production capacity and pioneering position of the Vietnamese wood processing industry internationally.

According to Mr. Man, the above achievements are thanks to the wood industry having formed a relatively complete supply chain, from raw materials, production to distribution. From there, creating a global competitive advantage. Vietnam currently ranks second in the world in exporting wooden furniture, just behind China and is in the Top 6 of the country’s key export industries.

At VietnamWood 2025, large international corporations and enterprises introduced many advanced machines, such as: cutting machines, planers, high-speed saws, modern drilling and cutting systems, integrated high-tech production systems… and types of raw materials, consumables certified ecologically from MDF, plywood, plywood… Thereby, reflecting the growth and development trend of the wood processing industry, which is gradually shifting towards automation, digitalization and sustainable production.

According to the Organizing Committee, VietnamWood 2025 brings together the global wood and furniture manufacturing community, industry leaders and innovators from Asia, Europe and America.

The highlight of this year’s event is the development of the wood industry towards smarter, cleaner and more circular production. Exhibitors showcased the latest breakthroughs in digital manufacturing, sustainable materials, energy-saving automation and precision engineering.

Solving many challenges

According to Mr. Phung Quoc Man, in the context of many fluctuations, many new challenges are becoming barriers. One of the biggest pressures today is the need to increase internal resources, improve productivity, green transformation and sustainable development.

To maintain and consolidate their position, Vietnamese manufacturers are forced to focus on optimizing costs and performance, minimizing waste of raw materials and applying sustainable solutions. At the same time, promoting automation and digitalization. This is a global trend, a driving force for the future of the wood processing industry.

Currently, Vietnamese suppliers are facing challenges as wood products are struggling to maintain competitiveness in the United States and other key export markets.

To answer questions and analyze how to strengthen research and development, product innovation and smart ODM strategies to strengthen competitiveness and open up new market connection opportunities, experts will introduce in the discussion session “Repositioning the Vietnamese wood industry: Shifting strategy from processing to creative ODM to overcome trade barriers and enhance global position”.

Along with that, the discussion session “Anti-dumping, EUDR, CE – EU compliance check points can cost manufacturers millions of Euros” will share with businesses costly lessons from trade disputes and practical guidance to help manufacturers maintain compliance and competitiveness in the EU market.

In addition, the discussion sessions with many topics related to the application of high technology in wood production bring a lot of practical content for businesses, such as: Adhering to the principle of combining creative ideas: American hardwood in global design; green transformation journey of Vietnam’s wood industry; application of AI, automation and data for precision manufacturing – AI in wood production.
