US extends tax evasion investigation into wooden cabinets made in Vietnam
According to the US Department of Commerce, there are three cases of wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam containing components manufactured in China that are subject to the original tax on China.
The US Department of Commerce continues to extend the investigation process on the imposition of trade defense duties on wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam, according to information from the Department of Trade Defense under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This decision means that the announcement of the final conclusion on the review of the product scope has also been postponed.
According to the plan, information on the final conclusion on the review of the product scope will be announced on April 5, 2024. For the investigation of trade defense tax evasion, the US Department of Commerce is expected to issue the preliminary conclusion and the final conclusion at different times, April 19 and July 18, 2024, respectively.
The investigation began in May and June 2022 when the US Department of Commerce initiated the case, and continued after the preliminary determination adjustment notice in March 2023. This notice indicated that there were three cases of wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam containing components manufactured in China that were subject to the original duty on China.
Currently, the US has imposed antidumping and countervailing duties on wooden cabinets originating from China since April 2020, with the tax rates ranging from 4.37-262.18% for antidumping and from 13.33-293.45% for countervailing.
The investigated products are under the HS codes: 7003.1990, 7005.1010, 7005.1090, 7005.2190, 7005.2990, 7005.3090, 7007.1900, 7007.2190, 7007.2900, 7016.9000, 7020.0090 and 8541.4011. These products are used as components of solar panels and in solar thermal applications.
